Vapman is a butane vaporizer handmade in Italy, heated with a jet lighter instead of a battery. On this page you will find the complete user manual for Vapman, prepared by VapeFully. It walks you from cleaning before first use, through setting the flame and filling the chamber, to maintenance and typical problems.
What’s in the box
Together with the Vapman 2.0 vaporizer you will find:
- a wooden vaporizer body, in the olive, satin or zebrano version,
- a replaceable mouthpiece with a cooling spiral and airflow control,
- a funnel for filling the chamber,
- a concentrate screen,
- a natural bristle brush and a wooden spatula,
- a screwdriver for taking the device apart,
- an egg-shaped case that holds back the smell.
There is no jet lighter in the box. Vapman is heated with an open flame, so you buy the torch separately. Beyond herb and a lighter you need nothing else to start.
First use
Clean the device before you fill the first chamber. Vapman comes apart completely with the included screwdriver, so you can reach every element with no trouble.
One rule matters more than the rest. Never use isopropyl alcohol on the wooden parts, because it damages the wood. We describe how to clean each element in the maintenance section below.
Step-by-step operation
Vapman is a butane vaporizer heated with a jet lighter. It has no battery and no electronics, so it needs no charging. It is intended mainly for vaporizing CBD herb.
- Unscrew the upper part of the vaporizer to reach the chamber.
- Place the included funnel on the chamber and pour in the herb so the pin in the middle of the chamber stays visible. This gives the optimal amount of herb and correct airflow.
- Remove the funnel and screw the upper part back on.
- Hold the Vapman horizontally in one hand and the lighter in the other. Aim the tip of the flame at the centre of the chamber from below.
- Heat for a time matched to the flame length (table below). You can extend the first heat-up by an extra 2 seconds to reach temperature faster.
- After heating, draw through the mouthpiece. Judge the taste, the amount of vapour and its temperature, then adjust the next heating time.
Wait a moment before each next heat-up so the heat can spread. We describe general inhalation technique in more detail in our guide on how to use a dry herb vaporizer correctly.
Temperature control and flame length
Vapman has no built-in temperature control. You steer it yourself by choosing the flame length and heating time. The flame should roughly match the diameter of the screen, which is about 15 mm.
To measure the flame, light the torch and compare its length with the size of the screen under the mouthpiece. The longer the flame, the shorter you heat.
| Flame length | Heating time |
|---|---|
| about 10 mm | about 5 seconds |
| about 15 mm (screen diameter) | about 3 seconds |
| about 20 mm | about 2 seconds |
If the vapour is too hot or too intense, shorten the heating time. If the vapour is too weak, extend it. To adjust the airflow, twist the mouthpiece: a more closed intake gives denser vapour, an open one gives lighter vapour.
Concentrates
Vapman copes with concentrates too. Place the concentrate screen or a rolled piece of degummed hemp fibre in the chamber, with a small piece of extract on top. Use only concentrates that are legal in your country.
Cleaning and maintenance
Clean the chamber regularly with the included brush and wooden spatula, ideally while the device is still warm. The sooner you remove the resin, the less often a full teardown awaits you.
For a deeper clean, take the upper part apart. Separate it from the lower part with the chamber, unscrew the small side screws holding the screen, remove the metal ring and pull the mouthpiece out of the wooden section. If the mouthpiece is hard to remove, warm the device slightly to loosen the hardened residue.
You clean each element differently, depending on the material:
- soak a steel, glass or titanium mouthpiece in isopropyl alcohol,
- wash a plastic mouthpiece in warm water,
- soak a wooden mouthpiece and the wooden section without the screen in acetone,
- soak the screen in isopropyl alcohol.
Do not clean the wooden elements with isopropyl alcohol, because it damages the wood. Once every part is dry, put the device back together in its original state.
Most common problems (Vapman)
Little or no vapour
Usually a matter of heating technique, not a fault. Check that the flame is around 15 mm and that you heat long enough. On the first cycle heat twice: warm it up, wait a second and warm it up again, only then will the vapour appear.
Scorched herb
Heating too long, too hard or with too large a flame scorches the herb. Shorten the heating time or reduce the flame and heat for less time. That is a technique error, not a defect, and the Vapman simply takes practice.
The torch will not light
Butane lighters can be unreliable in freezing weather and refuse to light in winter. Warm the torch in your hand or move somewhere warmer. Also check the gas level in the lighter.
When it is a warranty case
Vapman is a handcrafted design with no electronics, so real defects are rare. A crack in the wood, the mouthpiece or another element is a material defect and qualifies for a claim. Contact us and describe the problem.
Warranty
Vapman is covered by a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty. It does not cover damage caused by improper cleaning, for example a wooden mouthpiece wiped with isopropyl alcohol. At VapeFully you also have 30 days to return your purchase; you will find the fault report and return procedure on the Returns and complaints page.
FAQ
Does the Vapman have a battery and need charging?
No. Vapman is fully analogue and you heat it with a jet lighter. It has no battery and no electronics, so there is nothing to charge.
What flame should I set on the Vapman?
The flame should match the diameter of the screen, which is about 15 mm. With that flame you heat for about 3 seconds. A shorter flame needs longer heating, a longer one needs less.
How do I clean the wooden Vapman mouthpiece?
Soak the wooden mouthpiece in acetone, following the manufacturer’s recommendation. Do not use isopropyl alcohol on it, because it damages the wood. Steel, glass or titanium mouthpieces can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol.
Is the Vapman suitable for concentrates?
Yes. Use the included concentrate screen or a rolled piece of degummed hemp fibre placed in the chamber. Stick to concentrates that are legal in your country.
Why is the Vapman harder for beginners?
Vapman has no temperature control and no audible signal. You sense the moment it reaches temperature through the number of heating seconds and the flame size. At first this takes practice, later it becomes intuitive.
Spare parts and accessories for Vapman
The Vapman itself is no longer available for sale in our shop. Spare parts and the sister model are in stock:
Vapman Click is the sister model with a click mechanism and a larger chamber. If you are just entering the world of Vapmans, it tends to be the easier start.
Vapman is intended solely for dry herb and aromatherapy, for adults (18+). Keep the device out of the reach of children. Remember that you are heating with an open flame: work away from flammable materials, and handle the hot chamber and metal parts with care, because they stay hot after the session.
