The X-Max Starry 4.0 is the fourth generation of the bestselling Starry series, a session-style portable dry herb vaporizer with a replaceable 18650 battery. This page is the complete user manual for XMAX Starry 4.0, prepared by VapeFully. It takes you from first charging, through temperature and airflow settings, to cleaning and typical problems. Guides for other devices are collected in our user manuals hub.
What’s in the box
The Starry 4.0 box holds a full set for getting started and for cleaning:
- X-Max Starry 4.0 vaporizer,
- replaceable 18650 battery,
- USB-C cable,
- alcohol-soaked cleaning sticks,
- spare screens and seals,
- silicone mouthpiece covers,
- chamber brush and herb tool,
- tool for removing screens and seals,
- herb dosing capsule,
- leaflet.
The serial number is on the original box. Keep the packaging, because without that number you cannot open a warranty claim with the manufacturer.
First use
Before you pack the first chamber, charge the battery and run a burn-off with an empty chamber. That gets rid of factory residue in the heating chamber.
- Charge the battery for 6 hours before first use. A longer first charge extends the cell’s lifespan.
- Clean the parts that touch herb and vapour. Wipe the metal and ceramic parts with isopropyl alcohol, and wash the silicone and plastic ones in warm water with washing-up liquid.
- Rinse and dry every part thoroughly before reassembly.
- Switch the device on by holding the power button for 3 seconds and set the maximum temperature with an empty chamber.
- Keep the burn-off going until the chamber stops giving off any smell of alcohol residue and factory finish.
Step-by-step operation
Operating the Starry 4.0 is straightforward. You pack the chamber, switch it on, wait for it to heat up and take slow draws through the mouthpiece. General draw technique is laid out in our guide on how to use a vaporizer correctly.
- Grind your herb finely and fill the heating chamber evenly. Fill it whole, but do not press the herb down too hard, because air needs to flow freely.
- Switch the device on by holding the power button for 3 seconds. The Starry 4.0 starts heating to the last set temperature.
- Adjust the temperature with the up and down arrow buttons. Start around 180-185°C and raise it gradually as needed.
- Set the vapour density with the airflow slider. Less airflow gives denser vapour.
- Take slow draws through the mouthpiece. Leave 20-30 seconds between draws so the chamber can return to the set temperature.
- After the session wait for the chamber to cool, then empty and clean it of residue.
Want to vaporize concentrates at up to 240°C? Insert the included pad, which protects the bottom of the chamber from spills. The device is not designed for tobacco, e-liquids or e-cigarette cartridges.

Cleaning and maintenance
After each session, empty the chamber once it has cooled and wipe it with the brush from the kit. The Starry 4.0 needs fairly regular cleaning, because herb particles and resin collect in the condensation area.
For a thorough clean, wipe the metal and ceramic parts with a stick soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Wash the silicone and plastic parts in warm water with washing-up liquid, then rinse and dry them thoroughly.
Store the device in a dry place, away from heat and damp. Keep the battery somewhere dry and cool, away from flammable materials.
Most common problems (XMAX Starry 4.0)
A burnt popcorn taste late in the session
The Starry 4.0 heats herb mainly through the chamber walls, so towards the end of a session the vapour weakens and the taste turns roasted. That is a trait of a conduction vaporizer, not a fault. End the session earlier and swap in fresh herb once it turns dark brown.
The top of the device gets warm
With hard, fast inhalations the top of the vaporizer and the mouthpiece get warmer. The zirconia ceramic mouthpiece can feel warm, but it does not burn. Take slower draws and the temperature of the body will drop.
The device does not switch on
The advantage of the Starry 4.0 is its replaceable 18650 battery. If the device does not respond, first charge the cell or swap it for one that matches the specification. If a new, charged battery does not help, submit the device for a complaint.
Weak vapour or a sensor error after cleaning
After cleaning, make sure the screens and seals are dry and seated correctly, because moisture can temporarily upset the sensor. Also check the packing, because herb ground to dust restricts the airflow. If the symptom persists after drying and reassembly, contact us.
A cracked mouthpiece or worn screen
Screens and mouthpieces are consumable parts that wear out with normal use. If one gets damaged, you simply buy a replacement in the shop. XMAX sometimes sends a free spare part once for a fault like this.
Warranty
XMAX vaporizers are covered by a 2-year warranty. Screens and mouthpieces, as consumable parts, are not included, and a claim with the manufacturer requires the serial number from the original box. The procedure for reporting a fault or a return (the return window is 30 days) is described on our Returns and complaints page.
Spare parts and accessories for XMAX Starry 4.0
The device itself is available at VapeFully right away: X-MAX Starry 4.0 – Portable Vaporizer (€79). The kit includes a full set of screens, seals and cleaning accessories, and spare consumables and 18650 batteries can be bought in the shop.
The X-Max Starry 4.0 is intended solely for plant material and aromatherapy, for adults (18+). Keep the device and the battery out of the reach of children. Pregnant and breastfeeding women and people with chronic conditions should consult a doctor before use.
Handle the 18650 battery with care. Use only cells that match the specification, never use damaged or deformed batteries, and do not carry them loose in a pocket, because that risks a short circuit. Do not leave the battery charging unattended, do not charge it in damp conditions, and never expose the cell to fire or high temperatures.
