To understand how a vaporizer works, we need to know its interior. Each device has a so-called vapor path, which is the route that the vapor travels before it reaches the user’s respiratory tract. In the cheapest vaporizers, it is usually not isolated from the rest of the device components, including the battery and electronic modules.

A vaporizer is a device used to evaporate active substances from herbs. Its use allows you to extract significantly more active substances from the plant than during smoking. Why? This is because a significant portion of the active substances contained in herbs are destroyed during combustion due to excessively high temperatures.

When evaporating dry herbs, the vaporizer heats up to temperatures at which active substances are not destroyed and can be fully absorbed by our body.

This has two consequences:

  • First of all, vaporization is more efficient, because we absorb a larger portion of the substance than when burning the same amount of herbs. This means getting a more pronounced effect with the same plant material;

The most frequently asked questions by people considering switching to vaporization are: “Is vaporization harmful?” and “Is there evidence confirming its safety?”. The essence of vaporization is that combustion does not occur, so instead of toxic smoke we inhale vapor that is neutral for health. It is often said, however, that smoke from herbs is much less harmful than that from burning tobacco. So why is vaporization so much better for our health?

Although it is true that smoke from herbs contains significantly fewer harmful compounds than that from tobacco, it still remains toxic to our body – it contains potentially carcinogenic tar substances and many harmful compounds, such as carbon monoxide and benzene.

The first benefit is therefore that vaporization helps eliminate such substances and prevent them from entering our body.

Vaporization – elimination of toxins from the body 🧹

Vaporization is a phenomenon so new that to this day relatively few studies have been conducted on its impact on health. However, those that have been conducted so far are unambiguously associated with health benefits resulting from vaporization. The first large-scale pilot studies on herb vaporization were conducted in 2007.

They compared the amount of active substances and the amount of toxins that would be delivered to the body in the case of smoking (one group of experiment participants) and in the case of using a Volcano vaporizer (another group of participants).

Scientists discovered that although both groups of participants had a comparable amount of desired active substances introduced into the bloodstream, participants using Volcano received significantly less toxins resulting from the combustion process, such as the toxic and brain-damaging carbon monoxide.

This research result led scientists to conclude that vaporization allows active substances to be delivered to the body equally effectively, while significantly eliminating harmful toxins.

Less damage to the respiratory system

In the same year (2007) another study was conducted in which both tobacco and herb users were examined. Some of them smoked herbs or tobacco, while others used vaporizers or e-cigarettes.

These studies revealed that people who switched from smoke to vapor showed significantly fewer respiratory problems, such as cough, excessive phlegm production, or chest tightness. In the case of smokers, these symptoms occurred incomparably more often.

Interestingly, after switching to vaporization, study participants who intensively used herbs showed significantly fewer pathological symptoms than people who smoked.

The main conclusion from this study was therefore that among people using herbs, using a vaporizer significantly reduces negative symptoms related to the respiratory tract.

Better lung condition 💪

Further important studies were conducted in 2010. They were conducted on herb smokers who had already developed negative symptoms in their respiratory tract as a result of smoking, such as persistent cough, phlegm expectoration, or wheezing.

In the study, people showing such symptoms stopped smoking for a month and during that time used vaporizers daily. Like the previous two studies, these also proved beneficial for vaporization enthusiasts. After a month of using vaporizers, study participants showed significant improvement in respiratory function.

This was an improvement as significant as in the case of cigarette smokers who completely quit smoking. People who switched to vaporization, after a month of studies felt an overall improvement in condition and the feeling of “quitting smoking” and the positive effects associated with it.

All studies conducted so far indicate that vaporization allows for a significant reduction in damage that occurs when inhaling smoke from combustion, and also limits the amount of toxins supplied to the body. As a result, vaporization is the least harmful way to absorb active substances from herbs.
