CBD vs CBDA

How is CBD different from CBDA and why should you know these differences?

CBD is undoubtedly one of the most popular and well-studied cannabinoids. Hemp contains many interesting active ingredients.

One of them is CBDA, or cannabidiolic acid – the acidic form of CBD. Learn how CBDA works and what connects this cannabinoid with the popular and valued CBD.

What will you learn from this article?

👉 What is the difference between CBD and CBDA?

CBD vs. CBDA – what is CBDA? 🤔

CBD-A, or cannabidiolic acid, is a substance found in the resin glands of hemp. Like CBD, CBDA is a cannabinoid that attracts significant interest from scientists.

A very important point is that CBDA is considered an inactive ingredient – until it is activated.

What exactly does this mean and how does CBDA turn into CBD?

🌿 What is the relationship between CBD and CBDA?

To fully understand the role of CBDA, it’s important to consider the relationship between it and CBD.

CBDA is found in the raw plant material of hemp and is the acidic precursor of active CBD. Initially, both CBD and CBDA are present in hemp as the compound CBGA.

Thanks to the enzyme CBDA synthase, CBGA is converted into CBDA, which is the acidic form of cannabidiol.

CBD (cannabidiol) is formed from CBDA through a process called decarboxylation. What exactly is decarboxylation?

It is a chemical process during which the carboxyl group is removed from carboxylic acids (or their salts and esters), and carbon dioxide is released.

Through the decarboxylation process, inactive components in hemp (such as CBDA) are converted into active components. An example is CBD.

It’s important to note that CBD has many positive properties, which makes this process highly desirable as it results in the formation of CBD.

It is through decarboxylation that CBD gains many of its positive properties.

Properties of CBDA

Nowadays, more and more products are appearing on the market that contain not only CBD but also CBDA. Does the presence of CBDA in a product make sense?

It turns out that it does. For some time, cannabidiolic acid has been attracting considerable interest from scientists who are subjecting it to numerous studies.

Although CBDA is often considered pharmacologically inactive, it may also have certain properties.

Some studies suggest that CBDA may be helpful in combating inflammation and in preventing nausea and vomiting.

Research has shown that CBDA can inhibit the 5-HT1A receptor, thereby suppressing nausea and vomiting more effectively than cannabidiol.

Currently, research on CBDA is at a very early stage, and the results are not confirmed. Some scientists suspect that CBDA may have an impact on cancer cells in breast cancer, but the existing research does not allow for conclusive claims.

However, research into the properties of CBDA will undoubtedly continue, and the coming years may bring interesting discoveries in this area.

💧 CBD vs. CBDA – a way to maintain the body’s homeostasis?

One thing is certain – the combination of CBD and CBDA with a full spectrum of other cannabinoids is exceptionally effective.

It’s no surprise that such dietary supplements are increasingly appearing on the market. These two active ingredients complement each other and enhance their effects.

This can be a fascinating way to maintain the body’s homeostasis – especially since CBD combined with other cannabinoids allows for the so-called entourage effect.

When choosing CBD or other products, it’s worth checking whether they contain more cannabinoids – such as CBDA.

CBDA is a crucial precursor to CBD, and its decarboxylation process plays a significant role in cannabinoid activation.

How Is CBD Different from CBDA – Summary

Hemp harbours a wealth of cannabinoids, yet much of this world remains unexplored.

Although research on CBD, and even THC, has yielded very satisfying results, further studies are still necessary.

This will enable the discovery of the potential of individual cannabinoids.

CBD and CBDA are excellent examples of how individual cannabinoids interact with each other, enhancing their effects – and in many cases, this is very important information.
